Ethical Standards in Victim Services

Understanding the necessity of establishing and maintaining ethical standards VSP and the agencies they represent is crucial.   Enforcing a comprehensive code of ethics is instrumental in providing quality victim services, assists in identifying challenges faced by those in the field and improves response to those challenges.  Understanding and upholding acceptable ethical standards assists the VSP in maintaining respectable principles while providing professional services in a complex and challenging environment.

Primarily, ethics in victim services is necessary for the victims that we serve.   Establishing a standard of suitable behavior improves the credibility and integrity of both the VSP and the agency.   This chapter addresses issues that VSP face in upholding ethically responsible relationships with victims and the ethical dilemmas faced in making those decisions.
